Mayor's Message

Welcome to the City of Palacios’ website! We hope that you will find all of the information that you may need to learn about all the points of interest, programs, and services that our beautiful City by the Sea has to offer. Come recreate, relax, and refresh!

Palacios has a rich history and a variety of cultures. Visitors are usually captured by the beauty of the bay, the easily accessible seawall, calm beaches, beautiful public parks, unique bird watching opportunities, lighted fishing piers, kayaking, boat launches . . . . tired yet? Then there are the many locally owned shops and a wide variety of places to enjoy meals together. Tour the harbor to see from where most of your shrimp and oysters come. For overnight stays, Palacios has the very historic Luther Hotel and many Bed and Breakfast locations. One can walk to most destinations. On top of that is the friendly and helpful people you will meet.

Thinking about retiring or relocating your business here? Please come! There are employment opportunities in Palacios as well as the surrounding areas of Matagorda County. Palacios has projects underway to enhance the quality of life for both our residents and our visitors including infrastructure improvements, downtown revitalization, and new home development. The Palacios ISD is in the beginning stages of providing new schools for grades K – 12.

Palacios operates as a city run by the people for the people. The City leadership seeks citizen input and involvement. There are many opportunities to serve. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the public City Council meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 6 p.m.

We are committed to growth, but not overgrowth. There is a delicate balance. Our goal is to be fun, attractive, commercially vibrant, and environmentally responsible, while retaining that laid back small town charm. We hope that you will visit us soon and often to discover all that Palacios, the City by the Sea, has to offer.

City Council Meetings

Palacios City Council holds its regular meetings on the second (2nd) and fourth (4th) Thursdays of each month. Regular meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and are held in Council Chambers — 311 Henderson; Palacios, TX 77465. Special meetings and workshops are sometimes planned and generally begin at 6:00 p.m. Agendas are posted at least 72 hours prior to any meeting.
